Kursk WW2 battlefield tours from Moscow

Battle for Kursk 2 (3) days tour from Moscow by a car with guide

Route:  Moscow- Tula- North face: Mtsensk-Orel- Ponyri-  Kursk- South face: Jacovlevo-Prokhorovka-Pseol-Ponyri etc.  Museums, battlefields, trenches, monuments etc.

We are the former military, we know the real truth about the war, about the Soviet army and NKVD. Our WW2 battles information is based on the books of our friend (sometimes we organize the meetings) Valery Zamulin, a world leading specialist historian, and on the recollections of WW2 tank troops veterans we knew. Some battlfield tour travel western agencies do copy our routes and the programs we have developed, but they cannot copy our brains and knowledge. 🙂  Only a former Soviet officer knows what the Soviet army is. Neither the American, nor the Canadian, nor the British historian guide will ever know the truth about the Soviet army and its battles.

Kursk, Orel, Belgorod. WWI (RCW) – WWII tour.
These places like to visit those who are interested in the history of the Second World War.
Kursk Arc, north and south face, tank battle at Prokhorovka known in the West for a wide range of the books, the movies and the memories.
In the area of the famous Battle of Prokhorovka there are a large memorial, museum and armored vehicles exhibition.
Our fellow historians often ask us to show and tell not only about the battle at Prokhorovka, but also in other parts of the Kursk Arc, where there are great museums.
There is interest in the lesser-known but important events in the North face Kursk Arc operation. In these places, we also organize trips with visits to the local museums, the local search teams and the local historians.

A standard  tour from Moscow, including the north and south of the Kursk Arc, does  include 2 full days on the car with the historical military guide. Sometimes our guests so welcome and admire what they saw, they ask to stay for 1-2 days, which is possible.
These places are also relative with the history of the Civil War in Russia. “Moscow directive” of  Russian “White” army. White army and its allies – the French, the British and the Americans forces  were advancing on Moscow to defeat the Bolsheviks and restore the legitimate authority in Russia. Unfortunately, the Red Army under the leadership of Leon Trotsky won and White army retreated to the south. You will learn about it also in Orel museum.
For those interested in the history of World War I and the Civil War in Russia en route to Kursk also tells about the events of 1914-1919 years, the battle near Kursk and Orel. Our  military travel club has a unique photo archives of those events. The work on the organization of exhibitions on the historical period also maintained.

20 years (!) we did the one day 2 night tour by the train and we have a big experience.  The prices for train are highly up, the 2nd class tickets  solt out in few month, train station has not a platform – you  have to travel in the WW2 style 🙁  All our tourists are sportive but soo tired after full day travel, but no places for rest…. To sleep 2-3 hours at the cold small rail road station is the really soviet military style, but you are not at the war 🙂

Prokhorovka is only South face of the famous WW2 battle and it’s not enough for our tourists. The new museums at the  North face are welcomed also. You can touch it only by the strong car (oh Russian “roads”, the problem even for German tnks 🙂 ) with a guide. Cell phone, internet and navigator do NOT work there, we use WW2 military paper maps or ask the  local people. The real advanture and real WW2 atmosphere are guaranteed…

Now we do only 2 (3) days tour by car from Moscow with a guide. Note, we travel full day, since 4-5 a.m. (start from Moscow) and finish at 22.00-23.00, next day 9.00 am till 23.00 or 01.00 a.m. You pay only 100 + 100 Euros= 200 Eu  per day for a car+ English speaking guide, plus gazolin (depends of your travel)

Note that you can leave your baggage in your base hotel in Moscow but DO not pay for those 1 or 2 nights and keep the money. But you have to inform the administration in advance (better when you book the hotel). It operation does cover 50% of your tour charges.

You can also  visit Prokhorovka as the part of  2-4 days “Grand battlefield tour”  by car and including other battlefield areas such as Briansk-Kaluga- Kursk- Orel (check the programs)

Battlefields, museums and memorial areas on the new enhanced program:
Depending on the program you have chosen (express, normal and extended), we offer several routes from Moscow to Kursk-Prokhorovka. Below we list some interesting places that can be included in your chosen route. According to the results of our 20 years experience and the travel reviews of our friends and clients. We do not show many interesting places so that Western agencies do not copy, but you will see this during the tour.

Briansk. Guerilla base and battlefields area.  Available only for 3-4 days tour. Learn more about Briansk…
The partisans of Bryansk reported to the soviet intelligence about the number and types of German tanks and military equipment during the preparation for the Operation “Citadel”. Gueriilas also destroyed an important railway line. That’s Partisans contribution to the battle of Kursk. Our military guide, a specialist of the sabotage and reconnaissance work, will talk about the basics of the partisan (guerrilla) detachments under the guidance of instructors from the NKVD. Combat work, demolition of the railway tracks, the destruction of the military equipment, a reconnaissance, a propaganda,  accommodation and equipment of the base, change of the location and much more. In the local museum you will learn about the real operations in these battledields and the famous heroes – partisans. We provide military uniforms and you can make great photos for friends.

Orel (Oryol – “Eagle”). Soviet Hero-City.
The Battle for Kursk has the full name “Orel-Kursk Arc”. This is the northern face of this arc. In the city of Orel (Oryol) was the first Soviet tank school. The local museum will help you learn more about the fighting in the northern part of the battle.

Ponyri. North face.
After visiting the tank museum in Kubinka, where you saw Ferdinand’s only surviving German self-propelled gun in the world, you will see the real battlefields where it was captured as a trophy. Monuments, trenches, museums, a command post and an observation deck – all this is included in the recommended standard program.

to be contimued…

Kursk, the old beautiful city

Yakovlevo, 1 tank army battle July 6-7
Operation “Citadel”, the advance of German tanks began from Belgorod towards Moscow. The local goal of the offensive was the occupation of Oboyan. The commander of the 1st tank army, lieutenant general (future marshal) Katukov, a member of the Moscow defense had a sad battle experience of repelling German tanks in 1941-1942 .. Soviet Tanks -34 (76) and ZIS guns couldn’t destroy German T-VI in the forehead, so Katukov used tank ambushes. The hidden position of soviet tanks and guns near the road made it possible to destroy German tanks from a close distance of 200-300 meters to the side. And then quickly move to the next frontier line. July 6-7, a great battle took place in Yakovlevo. At this time, the German command received information about the approach of the reserve – the 5th Guards Tank Army, Lieutenant General (also future Marshal) Rotmistrov. The Germans decided to meet the 5th army in a bottleneck between a railway embankment (obstacle) and the Psel River (obstacle) 2-3 km wide and destroy Soviet tanks head-on under Prokhorovka. To this end, after the battle of Yakovlevo, part of the German troops (2 SS Panzer Corps) turned right towards Prokhorovka. The offensive from Yakovlev to Oboyan also continued.

Prokhorovka, WW2 largest tank battle
Prokhovka is the battlefield number 3 in Russia (number 1 is the Battle of Kulikovo against the Mongol-Tara invasion of 1380, number 2 is Borodino against the army of Napoleon in 1812). In World War II, this is the battlefield number 1, even larger than Stalingrad. 1,500 tanks and self-propelled guns in one day in one place …. It began with 2.5 kilometers, and ended with tank rams …This area includes the main tank field, the fortification line along the Psel river and hills (infantry bridgehead), a memorial complex with an original chapel (semi-Soviet style, semi-Orthodox), Victory Park, tranches and monuments, an open exhibition of military equipment, two large museums different directions (the history of tank building and the history of the battle), a tank race track and many interesting tourist secret objects that we don’t show on the site so that British spies do not steal our information 🙂 The owners of some of the main local objects are members of our team. This is our land and our close friends, therefore many of our programs for our tourists (friends) are exclusive, including living in private houses and showing private collections. For this reason, all our tours are individual and exclusive. Our main goal is not to make money (like other travel agencies), but to help our friends see our true story, real Russia, a maximum of interesting objects with minimal costs. We reserve the right to refuse travel to any tourists without explanation (especially from China and the former socialist countries). But if we agreed to show you these places, be sure that you will be very satisfied. For 25 years, all our guests (100%) were more than satisfied, delighted…

Mtsensk. Old Russian and Soviet city
Mtsensk is a typical city of the Soviet period, it is very interesting to visit to feel like a USSR person. Very popular “Order of Lenin” beer bar “Soviet times” for Soviet people. But there are many ancient Orthodox churches in the city, it is very interesting to see one or two in order to understand the old Orthodox Russia. Churches were used by the Red Army as excellent observation posts, so they were slightly destroyed by German artillery. This is also the northern face of the Battle of Kursk. There is a local historical museum. Memorials, monuments…

WW2 battlefields, armored train, cannons, memorials

On the road between Mtsensk and Tula. Cannons and even WW2 armored train

Tula, the old town – fortress and the arms factory
