“The miracle of technical thought.” “Swallow in armor.” “Formidable Victory weapons.” “The best tank in the world.” It’s the name of “Thirtyfour” – pride tank builders and tank darling!
Museum Complex “History of the T-34” is not accidentally appeared on the Dmitrov highway suburbs. In these parts lived and worked in one of the first Russian inventors V.D.Mendeleev tank. In a forest glade near Dmitrov was tested in 1917, the first Russian heavy tank N.N.Lebedenko. In suburban settlements of these places famous tanks and tank builders lived after World War II: M.E.Katukov, P.A.Rotmistrov, V.M.Badanov, A.A.Burdeyny, N.A.Kucherenko, A.M.Parchinsky , P.S.Antonov, S.A.Ivanov and others. But most importantly, WWII “The battle for Moscow”, December 6, 1941 with the addition of foreign, which today is a museum, T-34 tanks as part of a separate tank battalion went on the offensive in the frontal and the enemy occupied the Red glade (small village).
Upon entering the museum hall reproductions of two paintings: the left – tank builders, right – tankers. In the history of the tank, they are inseparable: the creators of the war machine and those who fought in it.
The exhibition opens the first museum floor stand “Ancestors of the tank.” For centuries, people searched for a means of defense and attack during the battle. Knight in armor and helmet – the oldest ancestor of the tanker. Further searches were in three areas: armor, engine, caterpillar mover. Only by the end of the XIX century, with the rapid development of industry, the tank has become a reality.
The first tanks. They were the beginning of World War I in various countries. Tsarist Russia, covered by revolutions, failed to implement the ideas V.D.Mendeleev, A.A.Porohovschikov, N.N.Lebedenko.
The first Soviet tanks. “Freedom Fighter Comrade Lenin” and 14 such machines, as well as the type MS-1 tanks ( “Small”) were the main combat vehicles in the 1920s.
Kharkiv. CB birth. With the growth of industrialization in the late 1920s at the Leningrad plant “Bolshevik” and the Kharkov Locomotive Plant. Comintern (hereinafter – KhPZ) began work on the new tank project. The design team has created a middle I.N.Apeksenko tracked tank T-24. Engineer S.M.Mahonin submitted sample T-24, the command of the Workers ‘and Peasants’ Red Army (hereinafter – the Red Army) in Moscow. The tank was sent to Kharkov for revision.
Fleet BT tanks. The high command of the Red Army is seriously considering production in the USSR light wheeled caterpillar tanks. Two such tanks “Christie” type were purchased in the United States. One copy was sent to KhPZ. Head of design group I.N.Aleksenko who does not agree with the production of a light tank, resigned from the factory. In 1931 on the base of the tank type “Christy” under the military engineer N.M.Toskin it was established lightweight wheel-tracked tank BT-2.
In December 1931 the head of CB became A.O.Firsov. With him, young designers have been enormous technical school and high experience. Under the leadership of Firsov tanks BT-5 and BT-7 were created.
In 1936 A.O.Firsov accused of the sabotage (Stalin great terror) because of problems in the boxes BT-7 tanks, transmission, was removed his position, in 1937 – was arrested.
BT tanks in the military troops. Tankers loved fast-moving tanks, affectionately called them “Betushkami”. In comparison with other tanks, BT were significantly more maneuverable, but that’s why it was difficult to drive them. Tanks tester E.A.Kulchitsky, sparing no effort and talent, taught the finer points of the control tank. He became “flying fortress” In his hands, the BT tank.
A number of improvements in the design of the tanks made themselves tankers. Among them are military technician tank company N.F.Tsyganov (BT-IS) and an officer of the Academy of Mechanization and Motorization Red Army A.Ya.Dik (BT-20).
Great organizer. December 28, 1936 Chief of Bureau KhPZ was appointed M.I.Koshkin – people with extensive experience in organizational and communist party work.
Quickly understand the complex industrial situation, Koshkin set the task of retaining employees and leaving work to improve the construction of tanks, mass-produced, created the new generation of tank.
As a result, after the display of drawings and layouts of new types of tank A-20 (wheel-track) and A-32 (a new type of tank track) it was decided to produce them in the metal and test thoroughly. December 19, 1939 at the meeting of the Defense Committee of the USSR adopted a resolution on the adoption of the A-32 tank into service of the Red Army by assigning him the name T-34.
Victory and a trouble. On the night of 5 to 6 March 1940 of the gate under its own power KhPZ Moscow sent two T-34 tanks. Together with experienced and reliable test drivers – the chief designer M.I.Koshkin. Having a heavy snow-covered road, both tanks are arriving in Moscow, well-tested. March 31, 1940 to claim their production in plants of Kharkov and Stalingrad.
Run two tanks Kharkov-Moscow-Kharkiv cost Koshkin life: he caught a bad cold on the way, and September 26, 1940 (9 months before the start of the Great Patriotic War), he was gone.
The soul of the tank. After the death of M.I.Koshkina Acting Chief Designer A.A. Morozov continued to perform, and the chief was appointed CB N.A.Kucherenko.
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1945, said: “During the Second World War there were three of the best weapons: British gun, a German plane” Messerschmitt “and the Soviet T-34 tank. The names and fates M.I. Tarshinov, V.G.Matyuhin, Ya.I.Baran and many other materials are sealed in about 12 designer groups and engineers who created the T-34 tank.

War War Two! June 22, 1941, Hitler’s troops crossed the border of the USSR and rush inland.
Feat tank builders. Kharkov plant number 183 and Stalingrad Tractor Plant continue to produce T-34 tanks (from the beginning of 1941 was released in 1066 “tridtsatchetverok”). Kharkov plant number 183 is preparing for evacuation. The first train leaves in mid-September 1941, followed by another 40 trains go. The path lies in the Urals, in Nizhny Tagil, where Uralvagonzavod should arrive at 5 factories evacuated from the European part of the country.

The exposition on the second floor
T-34 tanks receive a baptism of fire in the Battle of Moscow in the autumn and winter of 1941, on the battlefields forced the invaders to retreat from the capital. Only in the fall, realizing the mistake, the Führer sends back Guderian’s tanks to Moscow, but the time lost – Soviet front fortified and autumn slush is not conducive to Hitler’s troops.

Mikhail Katukov – the commander of the First Guards Tank Brigade, and then the Army, Marshal of Armored Forces, twice Hero of the Soviet Union. The exhibits of the museum dedicated to him, he tells of the battles of Moscow, about his duel with the German General Guderian, about fellow soldiers.
“Three tankers, three funny friends, combat vehicle crew” – the soviet popular name given lyrics stand “Three Tank Crew”. From these three different crews of combat vehicles. Were they friends – never met. They are united by one thing – the love of “Thirtyfour”.
Carefully read the life story and the row of letters Dmitry Kabanov. With 19 years he was in the tank. What are the only names he calls his tank “Tanya”, “Tatyana”, “Columbine”, “Argentina” … He led the T-34, and repaired them, and perished in the “Thirtyfour”.
Sergei Orlov. The famous Soviet poet was a tanker in the Great Patriotic War. Twice burned in the tank. Of his poems dedicated to tanks and tankers, we can create a separate book. In peacetime, he wrote the famous film “Skylark”, where the main character – the tank T-34.
Leonid Karz. I passed the war on the T-34. After he graduated from the Academy of Armored, it was distributed in KB Uralvagonzavod in Nizhny Tagil. He became chief designer. Under his leadership created these tanks as T-55, T-55A and T-62.
